Bible Verses To Fight Depression
I had an on again – off again relationship with hopelessness for most of my life. It has taken me a long time to figure out why these episodes kept coming upon me. But, more importantly, I wanted to know how to stop them before they had a chance to drag me down into the pit.
This description of depression was instrumental in helping me put things in perspective:
“Depression is the physical and emotional result of hopelessness –the ‘feeling’ of hopelessness. We live in a world devoid of hope, and depression is the emotional product of that reality.” [Source]
We are children of God and as such, “that reality” can only become our reality when we slip up and allow it to capture our attention. For those of us who are prone to episodes of depression, we must be committed to our faith walk; to keeping our minds and our hearts on what God said instead of what we see.
No matter the outward circumstance we must learn to trust and confess the Word of God. “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” What you see has no effect on what God said about the situation, and just because you can’t see the end you are hoping for doesn’t change the fact that you are more than a conqueror and all things are working together for your good.

The following scriptures will help you regain your hope, faith and trust. Study them. Meditate on them. Confess them over your life.
See, God is my salvation; I will have faith in the Lord, without fear: for the Lord JAH is my strength and song; and he has become my salvation. Isaiah 12:2
The Lord is my light and my salvation; I will fear no one. The Lord protects me from all danger; I will never be afraid. Psalms 27:1
I am able to do all things through Christ who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13
“Christ hath redeemed us (me) from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us (me)…that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we (I) might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” (Galatians 3:13-14)
Let us be bold, then, and say, “The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?” Hebrews 13:6
In the time of my fear, I will have faith in you. In God will I give praise to his word; in God have I put my hope; I will have no fear of what flesh may do to me. Psalm 56:3-4
And with all His abundant wealth through Christ Jesus, my God will supply all your (my) needs. To our (my) God and Father be the glory forever and ever! Amen. Philippians 4:19-20
In my trouble my voice went up to the Lord, and my cry to my God: my voice came to His hearing in His holy Temple, and my prayer came to His ears. 2Samuel 22:7
God caused the one who didn’t know sin to be sin for our (my) sake so that through him we (I) could become the righteousness of God. 2Corinthians 5:21
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusts in Thee. Trust ye in the Lord forever: for in the Lord JEHOVAH is everlasting strength. Isaiah 26:3-4
Those that trust in God must have their minds stayed upon him, must trust him at all times, under all events, must firmly and faithfully adhere to him, with an entire satisfaction in him; and such as do so God will keep in perpetual peace, and that peace shall keep them. ~ Matthew Henry ~ Bible Commentary on Isaiah 26:3 ~
