Day 6 ~ The Fruit of Wisdom
Day 6 | Forty Days with God
Are any of you wise and understanding? Show that your actions are good with a humble lifestyle that comes from wisdom. However, if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, then stop bragging and living in ways that deny the truth. This is not wisdom that comes down from above. Instead, it is from the earth, natural and demonic. Wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there is disorder and everything that is evil. What of the wisdom from above? First, it is pure, and then peaceful, gentle, obedient, filled with mercy and good actions, fair, and genuine. Those who make peace sow the seeds of justice by their peaceful acts. James 3:13-18 (CEB)
Attaining and living by Godly wisdom is of such importance in the life of the believer that King Solomon was led by the Spirit of God to address it in the first nine chapters of the book of Proverbs. Verse 18 is pretty clear in explaining the qualities inherent in the wisdom that comes down to us from God. It is pure, peaceful, merciful, gentle, obedient…
In the same way yesterdays study (Day 5) addressed the fruit produced by an active faith. Here James is urging us to show our wisdom in our works, our actions, attitudes and speech. Our lives should be governed by wisdom.
If we are entertaining negativity or motivated by selfish desires, then we are operating in worldly wisdom. Our actions are evil and nothing good can come from it.
