Is Your Faith Growing?
…as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. Romans 12: 3
Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6 and “No one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them.” John 6:44
You could not have chosen to come to Christ if the Holy Spirit of God had not given you a heart and mind to do so. When we were still walking around blind, God chose us. We were handpicked to be saved, redeemed, justified, purified and set aside by and for Jesus Christ. We were each given the measure of faith as we started on our journey with Christ.
So, what happened? Why are so many Christians living mediocre lives? Scratching and scrabbling to pay the bills and keep the bare necessities? Why are so many of God’s children living ineffectual, defeated, little lives? This makes no sense. God is our Father. He is Abba (Daddy). The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof. Our father owns everything! It is not His Will to have children who own nothing.
If someone gave you a small garden in a field that stretched as far as the eye could see, and told you that as long as you took care of it you could continually expand it’s borders. Not only that, they would supply everything you needed and pay you triple for whatever you grew. Think about it for a moment. The length and width of this garden, and your compensation would grow in proportion to the amount of work you put into it.
- Some people would be out there everyday, happily pruning, weeding, planting, watering and doing whatever else was necessary to make it flourish. Every other day, they’d be calling for more seed, more tools etc.
This group is comfortable, secure and content, lacking nothing. They put their trust in God, went on in and possessed that land. They water it with the Word and prune it with praise and worship. They are known by their fruits. But someone will say, “You have faith, I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds’ and I will show you my faith by my deeds. (James 2:18)
- Others would tend the garden grumbling and complaining about the weeds and how long it takes before their harvest comes and wah, wah, wah. Their gardens aren’t worked with love, patience and gratitude.
This group spends a lot of time focusing on their problems instead of trusting God. Negative thoughts produce negative words and actions. Over time, that negativity will kill everything that could have been. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to the Father through Him. (Colossians 3:17)
- Last and least, there are those who refuse to work. They sit idle expecting something for nothing. They think believing they’ll receive is enough.
God expects His children to produce fruit. Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. (1Timothy 5:8)
Are you hearing and speaking God’s words over your life? Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. What kind of seeds are you sowing? What have you done with your measure of faith? It’s your faith growing?
