Reflections On Transitions
Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what’s going to happen next.

I pass the wooded area in this photo almost every day when I’m out walking my dog. He knows the route and I’m content to let him lead the way. I have no problem allowing him to think he’s walking me, and as long as he doesn’t start pulling me, I don’t have to remind him who is really running the show. And we can simply take a pleasant stroll up to my favorite area. My place of peace.
Those few minutes a day that we spend in the park, walking past these woods I feel… more; More awake, more alert, more aware and more alive. I see the beauty of God’s work; the care and attention He gave to every detail. And I feel His Love and His Presence.
Finally, brothers and sisters, fill your minds with beauty and truth. Meditate on whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is good, whatever is virtuous and praiseworthy. Keep to the script: whatever you learned and received and heard and saw in me – do it – and the God of peace will walk with you.

I was mesmerized by that colorful, little tree in the picture. At first, I thought it was because of the deep bronze shade of its leaves, but that wasn’t it. After I stood there for a few moments, trying to figure it out, I realized what I found so compelling was the fact that this was the only tree (as far as I could see) whose leaves were changing at all. The rest of them were still healthy and green. Apparently, young trees and young people have something in common: The ability to accept – Change.
Of course, I had to whip out the cell phone and coax the dog to be still so I could snap a few pics.
This tree staring, picture-taking episode took place two weeks ago. The leaves are dead and falling off now, and the little tree looks lost and weary. But for a brief moment in time, it was brilliant and beautiful. And I was blessed to witness that moment.
I have looked at this photo at least once a day since then. Why? I really don’t know.
Maybe it’s because I tend to get a little melancholy when Summer ends. Maybe it’s because I’m in the midst of transitioning too, and I don’t know anything more than the outcome I am hoping for.
Maybe I need a daily reminder to embrace my own changes, go with the flow and trust that all things are working together for my good.
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.

It’s such a gorgeous picture.
Fall seems to be the time of new beginnings for me, even more than the new year, so I see this time as being hopeful.
