Book Review: God’s Love Letters To You by Dr. Larry Crabb
A 40-Day Devotional Experience
I agreed to review this book for two reasons:
- I’m an avid reader of devotionals.
- The title captivated me, Love letters from God! Really!
Dr. Larry Crabb’s book follows the basic devotional structure. It is meant to be read over a 40 day period, but it’s actually easy to finish the book in one sitting. The chapters are short and easy to read – each one is based on a scripture followed by a letter from God, points to reflect on and ends with a prayer.
Devotionals are based on the author’s interpretation of the scriptural reference. The problem I had with this one is, the letters are in the “first person” as if they were written by God’s own hand. God did not write these letters. They are nothing more than Dr. Crabb’s interpretation and should have been written as such. His use of the “I” in these letters rubbed me the wrong way.
I may have actually enjoyed reading this author’s opinions on the scriptures he chose to use in this devotional if he’d presented them as what they were – his opinions.
I gave the book 2 stars.
I received this book free from the publisher through the Book Sneeze.com http://booksneeze.com/book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
