Work For Food That Lasts
Do not work for food that spoils; instead, work for the food that lasts for eternal life. This is the food which the Son of Man will give you, because God, the Father, has put his mark of approval on him.” John 6:67 (GNB)
Have you ever been driven to the Word because you felt you were missing something or you needed clarity?
That’s the way I felt this morning.
Lately, I’ve been working really hard on a couple of projects. In my heart, I believe the work I’m doing is exactly what God intended and I have been pouring all of my energy into it. To say things were not progressing as I’d envisioned them is an understatement. Many times it actually seemed like I was going backwards! And I got frustrated and started working even harder… that is – until today.

This morning, when I read the verse written above it connected with my spirit. That missing something I couldn’t figure out became clear.
Even when we know the steps we’re taking have been ordered by the Lord, we can not allow ourselves to get caught up. The physical work should never take precedence over the spiritual work.
Just as our physical bodies need the food we work for to continue living in this world, our spirits need the food that can only be found in the Word of God to continue thriving in this world and the next. Without it, they starve and that is exactly what the enemy strives for; to kill your spirit. As long as you think you are too busy to spend time filling up on the Word, he is accomplishing his mission of separating you from Christ.
For we fix our attention, not on things that are seen, but on things that are unseen. What can be seen lasts only for a time, but what cannot be seen lasts forever. (2 Co 4:18)
Work for food that lasts. Fill up on the Word of God.
